Foreign investors account for 13.01% of property purchase in Spain
According to the Spanish real estate website Idealista, 13.01% of foreigners bought a house or apartment in Spain in 2014, a significant increase compared to 2013 (‘only’11.15%). In comparison, just 4.24% of real estate transactions were carried out by foreigners in 2009. The statistics are similar for property purchase in Barcelona and Catalonia. The largest investors are the British: the United Kingdom represents 16.72% of purchases by foreigners. Second on the list are the French with 10.27%, followed by the Russians (7.47%).
The Chinese and the Algerians are on the rise.
The Russians are followed closely by the Germans (7.34%), the Swedes (5.97%), the Italians (4.73%) and the Norwegians (3.98%). This list also highlights the presence of new property investors like the Chinese and the Algerians with 3.67% and 2.28% respectively.
They might invest in Spain’s real estate market due to the granting of visas to foreigners who invest € 500,000 or more in property in Spain.
