Appartment rental in Barcelona – what is the state of the rental market?

The rental market, especially the rental of apartments, is doing well in Barcelona. In this interview with Laure Sivadon, Realtor at Barcelona Properties & Real Estate Services, she explains what people are looking for.

How is the rental market in Barcelona doing?

The summer is the best time for us as families are on vacation and looking for an apartment to rent in Barcelona. As the crisis is over, rental budgets are higher.

Why are furnished apartments so popular?

The furnished appartments are especially popular with the international crowd. People come from the United States, Russia or South America for example for 6 months. They are looking for a furnished appartment that is ready to move into – quick and practical.   Barcelona Properties is located in the center of Barcelona so that helps.

Where do most people come from that rent with Barcelona Properties?

We welcome a large American clientele, as well as Spanish, English and French. Many French like to live in Sarria, in the hills above Barcelona, due to the presence of French high school.

What are people looking for when they rent a furnished appartment?

In terms of rooms, demand varies between 2 and 4. Most tenants like a terrace. The French generally want 2 bathrooms, one for receiving guests and one for private use. The Americans love space and check out the surface area first.

Will the demand for rental continue to grow?

Yes, more and more people want to rent unfurnished apartments. Families who come for two years for example like furnish the home themselves. They will usually offer the furniture up for sale to the owner first at the end of the term or re-sell it to others.
